High Quality Childcare and Early Learning Matters

Research shows that children can positively benefit from spending time in high quality nursery and childcare provision.

Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. The care and education offered by Edale Stepping Stones helps children to continue to do this by providing all of the children with interesting activities that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.

Staff at Edale Stepping Stones are well trained and focused on providing the best for individual children, following their interests and fascinations, and helping them build on the experiences, knowledge, understanding and skills that they have already had and leading them sensitively onto their next stage of development.

National research shows that the adult-child ratios, staff qualifications and group sizes all have an impact on the quality of provision. That’s why at Edale Stepping Stones we have a higher number of staff than is actually required by Ofsted, all our staff are well-qualified and we have small group sizes ensuring that children receive the individual attention that they need for personalised care and learning.

The Effective Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education Project found that high quality pre-school provision had a positive impact on children’s intellectual, social and behavioural development. Maybe more important for this longitudinal study, it suggests that this positive impact continues throughout schooling and into adult life. The key findings can be found on page 7 of the report here:
