Happy birthday to us! We are just coming up to the first anniversary of the opening of Edale Stepping Stones. We opened on 28th September 2020. Theresa and I work on a voluntary basis with three wonderful members of paid staff, Alee, Alex and Rose. We didn’t know how popular it would be but the nursery is now full. We believe that the children benefit from the decision of the Trustees to keep the numbers small, learning from each other, having lots of individual attention and making friendships that will last. Having small numbers does mean that we will always rely on the many practical contributions and the financial donations of the community in order to remain sustainable, so a big thank-you to all of you who have contributed in anyway during this first year – we couldn’t have done it without you! We hope that you agree that Edale Stepping Stones has been of benefit not only to the families whose children attend but to the community as a whole. As a charity we do not make a profit, with all funding being ploughed back into the nursery to benefit the children.
We’ve been busy all summer but have recently welcomed back the term-time only children and some new children too. We have been having a lot of fun catching up with friends and getting to know new friends.
However, during the last few weeks children at Edale Stepping Stones have been a bit confused at times by the weather we have been having and the darkness of the sky ‘It’s night time’ one of them said when we were sat eating our snack at 10:30 on a particularly stormy morning. ‘No!’ said one of the older children (3 years old) ‘it’s dark because it’s raining!’ and so began a long and ‘very English’ discussion about the weather.
I don’t know what the weather holds in store, but we are really looking forward to the next year of Edale Stepping Stones, and to enjoying every moment of it, sharing fun with all the precious little children we have the privilege of caring for.
